| Always Professional… What are your top three job frustrations? Not enough money___ Too many hours___ Dead-end career___ Too much paperwork___ Not enough training___ Not appreciated___ Feeling powerless___ Negative office politics___ Sexism in the workplace___ Poor public image___ Conflicts with peers___ Bureaucratic red tape___ Conflict with boss___ Other___ Other___ Many of you responded last month to the above question. Thank you for your interaction! Here are the results in reverse. The # 3 frustration is, "Not enough money and not enough training." The best way to leverage yourself to make more money is to increase your education/training, present a professional image, make yourself indispensable, and negotiate for more money. Research shows that more than $6 billion dollars is spent on training in North America yearly. Resources are available for more quality training. It's important for employees, supervisors, HR team, and the CEO to realize the necessity of continuously sharpening the saw. Email Brent O'Bannon if you would like consultation on training development in your organization. The # 2 frustration is feeling, "Not appreciated." Sadly, many people give tirelessly in their work with little appreciation. We all want and need the genuine praise! In my estimation, good workers are mostly appreciated, but the communication of appreciation dies on the vine. It's easy to drop the ball of communication of appreciation to your parents, significant other, children, and friends just as we fail to express appreciation and praise to those in the work place. Take time this week to buy a lunch, write a note, give a card, send some flowers, and express creative appreciation. The #1 frustration is, "Dead-End career." Frustrated workers believe there is no opportunity for meaningful advancement in their current work place. I'm amazed at how many people remain tied to an empty career with an invisible chain. The meaning is in your mind. Here are three questions to ask yourself. First, do you truly realize how you can make a difference in the world with your work? Second, are you in a career that matches your aptitudes and passion? Third, what keeps you from spreading your wings to fly in the direction of a meaningful career? | Forever Playful… Here are a few fun quips excerpted from "The Treasury of Business Humor" written by James E. Myers. It's so difficult to soar like eagles when you work with turkeys. Be awful nice to 'em goin' up, because you're gonna meet 'em all comin' down. Jimmy Durante To err is human. To really foul things up requires a computer! Being at work on time, every day, is one way to assure your job and...that you'll be first to hear most of the gossip. My boss's secretary is a truly direct, honest person. The other day, a visitor came in to see the boss and his secretary said: "Please tell me...would you care to be seated or should I book you into the nearest hotel?" A good secretary can do a whole lot more than take dictation, type, and make coffee. They must also be able to create the illusion that the boss is in charge. My secretary sure did cure me of having her select gifts for my wife. How? Well, last December, she bought her a red BMW! Bless somebody, send "me" your favorite work humor or funny story. Over 1,000 readers would love to read it! Send your story to Brent now!
